Foundation honours former blind Cricket SA captain

A foundation for the disabled continues its work despite challenges.

Sonwabile Bidla Foundation continues to touch the lives of people living with disabilities in the Ekurhuleni and Johannesburg areas.

The foundation is named after a former Blind Cricket SA captain, Sonwabile Bidla, who had a passion for the sport.

The organisation continues to thrive under the management of Karabelo Moseme.

Blind Cricket SA (BCSA) is an organisation affiliated with Cricket SA.

BCSA represents blind cricketers and partially sighted players.

Moseme said Bidla had a love for the sport, and the beauty of this earnest South African was that his visions were for those who did not have any.

“Despite being challenged by limited eye vision, he kept up with the game, persisted with encouraging blind cricketers in South Africa and worked valiantly toward the one main agenda, which should it succeed can enable a watershed moment in the development of bind cricket,” said Moseme.

As the CEO of the Bidla Foundation, Moseme said Sonwabile’s need to help others inspired them to celebrate him.

“Our vision is to improve and enhance the quality of life of children with disabilities in South Africa and beyond through education and community-based support.”

Due to the recent unrest and the Covid-19 regulations, the organisation had to postpone its Mandela Day event.

“Our mandate is to reach out and aid underprivileged disabled people in all our communities with the necessary support they need.”
