“In everything, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak.”

This Bible verse comes to mind when thinking of Vanessa Spawsov, a woman who has dedicated her life to aiding those in need.

Spawsov is a humble, funny, God-fearing women residing in Klopperpark, from where she runs a soup kitchen.

The mother of three has been feeding people in and around her community since 2017 by providing food parcels and home-cooked meals.

Spawsov said before she started her soup kitchen she had previously worked with several soup kitchens.

“I started by cooking meals on behalf of people, but later realised people do not all eat the same food.

“I started giving out groceries so people can feed themselves by preparing meals their own way,” said Spawsov.

The soup kitchen feeds pensioners and underprivileged people. At times she hands out dignity packs at traffic lights to those less privileged.

Recently the soup kitchen fed 70 people at Sonnig Street who had no electricity.

To sustain the soup kitchen, Spawsov hosts jumble sales to raise funds every first and last week of the month.

“I hope to have an NPO registered soon so I can reach more people,” said Spawsov.
