#Saveourchildren inspire Hawks learners to dream of a brighter future

“As the foundation, we don’t just want to come in and motivate, give a gift and leave them there. We want to do more and walk the journey with them,” said Thembi.

Businesswoman and Mrs South Africa semi-finalist Thembi Sambo visited Hawks Academy on May 25 with her foundation #Saveourchildren for motivational sessions with the Grade 11 learners.

The Grade 11 class will be Hawk’s first Grade 12 class in 2022.

#Saveourchildren was inspired by Sambo’s upbringing.

“I was raised by a single mother. We had to grow up very fast and help her in ensuring that we have food on our table. We would sell veggies and other things to ensure that we survive,” she said.

She was accompanied by young professionals from different backgrounds to share their stories of success with learners.

The learners had an opportunity to interact with the speakers and ask about their work and life experiences.

The learners also received journals as a gift to encourage them to pen their thoughts and dreams.

“We want them to write down their thoughts. That way they can always go back and remind themselves of what they want to achieve. If they see it, they will remember it and if they work on it they can achieve it,” said Thembi.

#Saveourchildren will provide long-term support to the learners by connecting them with the right people and resources to help them reach their dreams.
