Mac Vay scoops Afri Indie Award

Germiston musician wins an Afri Indie Award.

Germiston resident John Mac Vay, also his stage name, recently walked away with the best newcomer award at the Afri Indie Awards for Independent Artists.

The artist was nominated at the Afri Indie Awards for Independent Artists under the categories of best newcomer and best newcomer single.

His hit single, Een Rand Werd, won him the award.

Mac Vay said he has worked hard to get where he is and appreciates winning the award because it proves his talents does not go unnoticed.

“My wife’s support throughout this journey has been wonderful. She has always supported me in my career. I would love to thank my production team for making it all possible,” said Mac Vay.

“Most of all, I would love to thank my supporters who made it possible for the song to be number one for four weeks on the Sabie Top 20 playlist.”

Mac Vay thanked the radio stations who set the platform for independent artists.

The artist was inspired by his late mother who said he has a beautiful voice.

“I love singing, I give it my best and I do a lot of charity work on the side. I sing a variety of music from country to Afrikaans. A charity that is very close to my heart is Aiding Simba that helps animals in need. I also recently raised money for Cansa,” he said.
