Three vehicles burnt to a crisp in Bonaero Park

“Three vehicles, a bakkie and two hatchbacks, were destroyed by the fire. On inspection, after the blaze was extinguished, three burnt gas cylinders were found inside the bakkie. The blaze was extinguished just before 1am,” Ntladi said.

A fire alarm alerted crews from Farrarmere Fire Station to vehicles on fire in Porto Amelia Street last Friday after midnight. According to William Ntladi, spokesperson from DEMS, firefighting crews responded immediately to the scene in Bonaero Park. On arrival, three vehicles parked under a shelter were well alight.

Ntladi stated: “Next to the shelter there was a single-roomed structure subjected to radiation heat. Defensive fire suppression was initiated to prevent the spread of the fire to the storeroom and main house.”

Crews used two attack lines to contain the blaze from two different directions. Water was pumped from one fire engine that was on scene receiving water from the fire hydrant nearby.

“Three vehicles, a bakkie and two hatchbacks, were destroyed by the fire. On inspection, after the blaze was extinguished, three burnt gas cylinders were found inside the bakkie. The blaze was extinguished just before 1am,” Ntladi said.

Gerald Groenewald, operations director from Sec Pros, said: “Our client reported he heard glass breaking before the fire was ablaze. SAPS was summoned to the scene and the client opened a case for further investigation.”

Ntladi stated the cause of the fire is undetermined and still a subject of investigations by police and fire safety officers. No casualties were recorded on scene.

A media enquiry was sent to Kempton Park SAPS regarding the case and investigations. No feedback was received by the time of going to print.
