Junior cricketers invited to join club

“There are leagues that offer junior teams the opportunity to play and Germiston is missing out. With the junior team established I believe we can make our cricket to a stage where we will be proud of as senior residents of the community,” said Mwase.

TKM Rising Stars Cricket Academy in partnership with Germiston City Cricket Club will be forming a junior cricket club. Junior cricketers are invited to join.

“Over the years Germiston City Cricket Club has never fielded junior sides. This is a way of developing cricket among the youth in Germiston,” said Kelvin Mwase from TKM. Mwase said several schools are playing cricket in and around Germiston but the club does not offer junior side cricket.

“We want to generate interest in children for the game so that they may be able to participate in competitive environments at a later stage in life.”

“There are leagues that offer junior teams the opportunity to play but Germiston is missing out,” said Mwase.

The junior club is open to boys and girls up to 19 years, who are residents of Germiston and surrounding residential areas. Mwase said their goal for 2021 is to participate in the Eastern Cricket Junior League and to establish cricket coaching clinics.

Mwase is a Cricket South Africa Level Two coach and cricket South Africa Level Two umpire. He has coached the Johannesburg under-19 North Side and is a former provincial cricketer from Mashonaland, mini cricket and junior cricket coach at Yeshiva College and junior cricket coach at Blairgowrie Primary.
