Elsburg police holds monitoring operation

Three suspects were also arrested for assault related to domestic violence and malicious damage to property in Buhle Park and Graceland.

Elsburg SAPS embarked on a Covid-19 monitoring operation recently in Rondebult, Elsburg and Buhle Park.

“The focus was to address those who do not comply with the Disaster Management Act. It came to the attention of SAPS management that several liquor outlets are operating after curfew, while we also wanted to enforce high visibility to prevent car hijackings in the Buhle Park area,” said Elsburg police spokesperson Daphney Phooko.

The men and women in blue hit the streets of Elsburg to ensure residents’ safety and security and to uphold the law.

“Police visited several shebeens, taverns and clubs in the area,” said Phooko. Two liquor outlets were found to be operating without licences and were closed. Fines to the value of R1 500 each were issued for non-compliance with the Liquor Act. Liquor and fridges were seized.

One licensed club was also visited and was found operating after curfew.

There was a bullet hole in the back door on the right. “It was found it belongs to the victim who was shot. Suspects are still at large. Investigations continue,” said Phooko.
