Elsburg SAPS encourages employees to break the silence on domestic violence

Elsburg SAPS and the Department of Health were invited to Adcock Ingram in Wadeville on March 16 to address the employees on domestic violence.

Sgt Erin Palmer explained domestic violence is a serious and growing concern, which has the highest incidences.

The Domestic Violence Act of 1998 (Act116 of 1998) was brought into effect to afford the victims of domestic violence protection from abuse.

“The sergeant touched on several issues during her presentation: protection order, types of abuse, rights of the victims, how to apply for a protection order, where to apply for it, who can apply, duties of police officers, crisis plans and emergency-numbers,” said Elsburg SAPS spokesperson Daphney Phooko.

“We empowered employees with information by giving them pamphlets with information and also encouraged them to take a stand against this form of violence,” said Phooko.
