Athletics South Africa suspends all athletics activities due to Covid-19

ASA‘s acting CEO, Terrence Magogodela said they hoped to resumed their normal events calendar.

Athletics SA (ASA) recently suspended all athletics activities for two weeks due to the second wave of Covid-19.
ASA’s acting CEO Terrence Magogodela said they hope to resume their normal events calendar.

“ASA cannot ignore the dire situation that we find ourselves in, and that it is worse with an increased death rate. The major concern is that the new Covid-19 strain seems to be affecting a large number of young people.

“Therefore in the interest of saving lives, ASA is suspending all athletic events for two weeks.” Magogodela added that the decision affected the ASA cross-country trials scheduled for Potchefstroom. This event was postponed indefinitely.

“A new date will be determined and announced in due course. ASA will review this decision after February 7 in line with government pronouncements and continued consultation with medical experts.”
