Man killed by high voltage overhead power lines on railway line in Rondebult

The power supply had to be isolated first for safety reasons before the recovery could commence.

A man was found hanging from high voltage electrical power lines on the railway line in Rondebult this morning.

Fire and rescue teams from Wadeville Fire Station responded to the scene after reports at about at 9.45am.

“On arrival, the motionless body was hanging froma an 8,5-metre-high switch structure above the rail line. A team of seven rescuers managed to recover the body,” said DEMS spokesperson William Ntladi.

“The power supply had to be isolated first for safety reasons before the recovery could commence.” 

“It is alleged that the man had been tampering with the live 3 000 volt power lines which resulted in electrocution.”
