Touching lives one bottle cap at a time

Primrose resident Lynne CrawCour is making a difference, one bottle cap at a time.

Lynne started collecting bottle caps in 2013 as part of helping her colleague, but when the colleague stopped she continued.

“In 2014 we decided to continue to collect. It soon became our project as the company supports me in my collection,” said Lynne.

She said when she started collecting bottle caps she could not collect a lot because she did not have the transport to deliver them.

“I used my car when I started and dropped small amounts at Interwaste. As it grew, the company, The Herbert Evans Group, offered storage and the use of the trucks. That made a difference because it meant I could collect more with more help,” said Lynne.

She said her bosses saw the difference the bottle caps made and were happy to support the cause.

“The more wheelchairs we handed over the more inspired we became to make a difference in people’s lives, especially children who still have a future,” she said.

With her company, they have received 64 wheelchairs from Interwaste to donate.

“We are planning to do more. With the help of friends, family and the community this is possible.

“It only requires one to save a bottle cap and that will lead to someone who is in need of a wheelchair receiving one,” said Lynne.

“Everything is worth something; one person’s rubbish is another person’s treasure,” she said.

She invited the community of Germiston to join in collecting bottle caps.

To receive one wheelchair, 450kg of bottle caps needs to be collected.

“We collect from January to April and when we have reached our target we take them to Interwaste,” said Lynne.
