Reptile expo a world of wonder for Lambton residents

The purpose of the expo was to educate and introduce the world of reptiles to residents interested in knowing more about these animals

SaveMe Reptile and Exotics Rescue Centre in Lambton held a reptile expo and convention on October 31 and November 1.

The purpose of the expo was to educate and introduce the world of reptiles to residents interested in knowing more about these animals.

“We wanted to offer expo visitors and reptile lovers a variety of exotic animals and reptiles to learn about.

“The event boasted an educational, relaxed and friendly environment for visitors,” said founder of SaveMe Ilonka Nel.

The event expo was held at Majestic Place, where SaveMe is based.

“Education is key. We would like the entire world to see, understand, respect and appreciate all the different animals and plants our amazing planet homes,” said Ilonka.

Shawn Hefer from RAWR Reptile and Wildlife Rescue Centre said expos play an important role in helping to save these animals.

“The expo is a fun way for people to learn and get informed. As humans we are always told animals are dangerous but you find in most cases animals are more scared of us than we are of them. These platforms provide many with an opportunity to learn,” said Shawn.

The expo also had the environmental management inspectors (green scorpions) part of the expo.

Dikeledi Mogapi, who is a green scorpion, said the expo was a great event as it offered them the opportunity to educate people about the importance of protecting animals and the work done by green scorpions.

“Most people are not aware or educated about the role animals play, and that results in many breaking the law,” said Mogapi.
