“These moves can save a child’s life. We stressed the importance of alerting others in case of a kidnapping by screaming ‘stranger danger, kidnapper help’. The main aim is to free themselves and escape if there is no one around to help them,” said Yen.

Parents were encouraged to participate in the workshop.

“It’s important that as parents and guardians we educate our children about safety and give them the necessary tools and skills to deal with a crisis if they are kidnapped,” said Yen.

He reminds parents to keep calm in case of a hijacking.

“Always be aware of what is happening around you and when you are faced by a hijacking, your first concern should always be to get your children out of that situation safely,” said Yen.

Children were challenged by using their acquired skills as they were confronted by different scenarios during the workshop.

“I enjoyed the class and it was informative for my grandson. He is four years old and I want him to know how to protect himself if he should ever be faced with danger,” said Stephanie Correia.

Alaric Alves (4) said he enjoyed the class.

“It was fun. I learned how to protect myself from strangers or when someone tries to take me. I will also teach my friends want I learned,” said Alaric.
