Four caught for theft of cables

Elsburg SAPS arrested four people for theft of cables during O Kae Molao operations.

A total of 18 arrests were made during the recent two-day operation, which also included one for armed robbery.

“Three men were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms,” said Sgt Daphney Phooko, Elsburg SAPS communications officer.

Phooko said two shebeens, situated in Rondebult and Buhle Park, were closed and the liquor confiscated after two arrests were made for selling liquor without valid licences.

Officers also conducted a stop-and-search operation during which 48 people were searched and 23 vehicles were stopped.

Six people were arrested for contravention of the National Road Traffic Act.

“The Elsburg SAPS social crime prevention outreach members distributed pamphlets on Voortrekker Street to create awareness about drug abuse,” said Phooko.
