Tavern owner arrested for alleged assault and robbery

"Police are still looking for the second suspect."

A 56-year-old man was arrested on October 10 at Makause informal settlement for common robbery and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

According to Primrose SAPS spokesperson Sgt Styles Maome, the complainant alleged he went to a tavern and was asked by the owner of the tavern and his brother to buy beer for them and he refused.

“It is alleged the owner of the tavern hit the complainant with a beer bottle while his brother searched him and took R1 700 as well as the complainant’s cellphone.

“The complainant sustained injuries where he was hit with a beer bottle. He laid a charge with the police, who arrested the one suspect. Police are still looking for the second suspect.”
