Fake goods and perishables were impounded following a clean-up operation in Germiston on September 22.

EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng said several EMPD units and SAPS members visited Germiston and goods for sale displayed at prohibited places, obstructing pedestrians on sidewalks and abandoned dilapidated motor vehicles parked illegally, were impounded.

“Sidewalks on Rand, Knox and Joubert streets were raided following a joint by-law enforcement operation. When hawkers operating illegally saw officers closing in, they fled on foot, leaving their merchandise behind,” said Mokheseng.

“Liable owners who wish to claim their goods must be prepared to pay the relevant fine for contravening municipal by-laws.

“Claimants can visit Germiston precinct situated in Elsburg area, at the corner of Voortrekker and Els roads, with the necessary proof. Perishables not claimed timeously will be destroyed,” said Mokheseng.
