Know your councillor: PR Clr talks Ward 40

Knowing who to contact when a municipal issue is not fixed properly can be confusing for a new resident. Ward 40 includes Buhle Park, Leondale, Roodekop Extension 25, Crossroads, Tshongweni and Motloung.

“As a councillor, my biggest responsibility is to ensure effective service delivery at all times. I am the middle man between the community and the metro,” said Ward 40 PR Clr Kade Guerreiro who shed light on his goals, responsibilities and the projects he is working on in his ward.

Knowing who to contact when a municipal issue is not fixed properly can be confusing for a new resident.

“I represent the residents in decision making, developing and reviewing council policy and scrutinising decisions taken. Councillors also escalate residents’ issues to council.”

Guerreiro explained Ward 40 includes Buhle Park, Leondale, Roodekop Extension 25, Crossroads, Tshongweni and Motloung.

“Residents can contact me on any matter related to the metro such as power outages, sewage blockages, road potholes, parks, street lights and waste management.”

Guerreiro said he is working on the sewage crisis in Buhle Park, constant power outages in Leondale, re-blocking in crossroads, the need for a clinic in Buhle Park, an upgrade of roads in some phases and the need for a police station in Leondale, as well as park maintenance.

He shared highlights of his tenure in the Germiston community.

“We donated a fully functional library to the Buhle Park Secondary School in the beginning of 2020 and a wheelchair project which has seen a number of lives improved in 2019.

“As a community leader, it is always great to be able to give back to the residents.

“My goals are to help introduce fast and effective service delivery, to see communities which are happy and love the metro, clean roads, parks, general upkeep of our towns and streets and to ensure all funds are correctly spent.

“Community members can help make their councillor’s job easier by reporting all their problems. As a councillor, my job is to help and work with the community. If the community is happy then I am happy so we need to report every problem.”

He invited residents with ongoing issues of electricity cuts and theft to join his WhatsApp groups.

“This is to ensure we are all informed about what is happening in and around our areas. Electricity issues are ongoing. Ensure that I am informed of the power failures so that I can send reference numbers and report these to the relevant department.”
