Primrose police arrested a 21-year-old suspect for statutory rape at Marathon informal settlement.

Primrose SAPS spokesperson Sgt Styles Maome said the child’s mother told the police that she returned from work on August 6 and noticed her daughter (14) was not home.

“She became worried and inquired with her daughter’s friends and relatives. She reported the incident at the police station the following day.

“A day after the girl was reported missing, a neighbour then informed her that she saw her daughter at a shack nearby.

“The police were called and accompanied the mother to the shack. The girl was found inside the shack owned by a man. When they questioned the girl, they alleged that they never had sexual contact.

“The girl was taken for medical check-up and she confessed that they did have sexual intercourse which the medical report also confirmed,” said Maome.

A case was opened and the suspect was arrested and detained, pending his appearance at Germiston Magistrate’s Court.
