Rand Refinery extends a helping hand

"The donated food parcels will go to identified child-headed families, pensioners and disadvantaged communities all across the City of Ekurhuleni."

In the Spirit of Nelson Mandela, Rand Refinery, based in Germiston, extended its helping hand by distributing food parcels on July 22 to disadvantaged communities who have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Thabang Mashiyane, media officer of the ANC Chief Whip, Clr Jongizizwe Dlabathi, said more than 300 food donations were received on behalf of the ANC Ekurhuleni Caucus at OR Tambo Government Precinct in Germiston.

“The donated food parcels will go to identified child-headed families, pensioners and disadvantaged communities all across the City of Ekurhuleni.”

Rand Refinery also identified two hospitals and several schools in the area to support.

“The team is currently working out the modalities and requested both the hospitals and the schools to advise on their key requirements,” said Mashiyane.

“Ekurhuleni has been home to Rand Refinery and some of our employees and their families.

“As the Covid-19 pandemic spreads globally, it has created a great deal of uncertainty and disruption in the lives of people, businesses and communities,” said CEO of Rand Refinery Preveen Baijnath.

According to Baijnath, the company is expected to spend over R10-million on its suite care packages and external initiatives to fight the scourge of the pandemic.

Mashiyane added the parcels contain essential food and household hygiene items.

Dlabathi thanked Rand Refinery for their support to communities.
