Opening and closing of Bedfordview Licensing Department due to Covid-19 cases

Concerning the pay office, Humphreys said residents are urged to use the facilities in Germiston.

The City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) has completed repairs at the Bedfordview Licensing Department and pay office after a burglary on July 2.

The NEWS reported on July 4 a case of business burglary was opened following a break-in at the office on Hawley Road.

Ward 20 Clr Jill Humphreys said her main concern is burglaries that keep persisting.

“Metro pays for a security company, which is apparently on site at all times and the same thing happens with enormous theft. There was also a burglary last year.”

“The rate payers are paying to get this fixed again,” she said.

Humphreys added residents are weary and all they seem to ask is when the department will be open again.

Humphreys said it is difficult to know when these offices are open or closed.

In terms of the pandemic, she said as a community, whether private or government facility, there needs to be acceptance this is the way things are now.

However, she said it is important to find ways to function with proper protocols in place.

She said opening and closing of Ekurhuleni facilities should be made known on social media.

Concerning the pay office, Humphreys said residents are urged to use the facilities in Germiston.

“I try to keep residents informed on these matters, but I don’t always know and I don’t always get told either,” she said.

Ward 20 Clr Jill Humphreys calls for more transparency from metro on burglaries at the Bedfordview Licensing Department.

Spokesperson for CoE Themba Gadebe said the continued closure is due to confirmed Covid-19 cases, which requires the closure of the office for the disinfection.

He said, therefore, residents are requested to use Germiston Licensing Department.

“The Covid-19 pandemic remains our reality and from time to time, some devices will be affected and we do urge residents to exercise patience,” said Gadebe.

However, for the renewal of licence disks, he said the Bedfordview drive through centre is operational.
