How to become a member of the EMPD Equestrian Unit

A basic guideline on how to join the unit.

In order to become a member of the EMPD Equestrian Unit you need to have completed your 18 months’ training to become an EMPD officer.

Once you are an officer you need to have at least two years’ precinct experience before you can apply to join the unit.

If your application is successful you will be sent on an intense six-week basic riding course.

This is either conducted by a service provider or done in-house, depending on the availability of the service provider.

After you have qualified (written and practical examinations), you can be deployed and will receive your official badge.

You will be fully competent to do policing.

After your initial qualification it is always advisable to go for more intense training.
