Prichard loves her work at EMPD Equestrian Unit

For Const Prichard Wizer there is no place she would rather be than on her horse doing police work.

She was straight out of EMPD training college in 2005 when the opportunity arose to join a new unit being started.

The unit was the EMPD Equestrian Unit and this is where Const Prichard Wizer still finds herself, and she loves every minute of it.

“I thought why not join the new unit?

“As a black person it was not really the norm for us to get to work with animals and do police work at the same time,” she said.

“I wanted to inspire young black children to become police members on horseback.”

Prichard was born and bred in Geluksdal, Brakpan, and she still resides there.

At the unit she is riding Sprinkles, an Appaloosa gelding, and the two have been together for about six years.

“You develop a strong bond with your horse and even though Sprinkles has developed a problem with his eye and is under veterinary care, he is still able to work and does not shy away from anything,” she said.

Prichard has a great love for animals and said she will continue with the unit as long as God keeps her there.

She is married to Jackie and he is proud and happy with her career choice.

“The unit is my family away from home,” she said.
