Man nabbed with nyaope in Rietfontein Road

The police apprehended a suspect on a charge of possession of drugs.

Members of the Benoni K9 Unit noticed two men acting suspiciously while on patrol in Rietfontein Road, Primrose, last Thursday.

“When the men saw the officers, one became noticeably panicked,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“Police searched the men and found a pipe and a packet of nyaope in the possession of one of the men. The 56-year-old suspect was arrested on a charge of possession of drugs.”

During questioning the suspect allegedly told police he had bought the nyaope from a Nigerian man, but was reluctant to show or tell police where the man stayed.

He will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
