Ready, set, bake in support of the Sunflower Fund

Winners will be announced on August 5 so let your creativity spark as the bake-off begins.

The Sunflower Fund is celebrating its 20th anniversary and to commemorate this milestone they are hosting a Great Sunflower Bake-Off.

This exciting national event launched on June 1 and will entail contestants submitting their best sunflower-themed cakes for a virtual judging and voting process.

The panel of judges includes well-known, experienced cook, television presenter and culinary writer, Justine Drake and the highly talented Sasko baker of the year, Lameez Abrahams.

The competition is open to home bakers, novices, kids and advanced bakers.

Amazing prizes will be up for grabs to the winners.

The competition entry fee is R30 per cake entry.

Judges will be looking at creativity, adherence to theme, and the skill level of your bake.

Photographs of your cake must be emailed before the closing date. Details to follow on entry.

Competition closes on June 30 and 10 finalists will be chosen in each category for public voting.

About Sunflower Foundation Fund

The Sunflower Fund is a donor recruitment centre and stem cell registry.

They fight blood diseases like leukaemia through the recruitment of stem cell donors and maintaining a registry of potential donors committed to helping anyone in need of a life–saving stem cell transplant.

Funds raised from this event will enable The Sunflower Fund to cover the cost of education and awareness about the need for and the process to become a blood stem cell donor, as well as to cover the cost of the HLA tissue–typing test involved in the recruitment of donors.
