Man nabbed with illegal firearm in early morning patrol

Primrose police apprehended a suspect on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition in Primrose.

While on an early morning patrol in Primrose Sector Three on Wednesday officers from the Primrose Police Station noticed a suspicious silver Toyota Corolla.

“Police tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped off,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose SAPS.

“They pursued and overtook the vehicle, ordering the driver to pull over.”
Officers searched the men and vehicle and found a black pistol with a magazine loaded with eight live rounds of ammunition.

“During questioning the driver (33) allegedly admitted the firearm belonged to him, but was unable to produce a firearm licence when police requested one,” said Maome.

He was arrested on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition.

He was detained at the Primrose Police Station pending his appearance in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.
