Fifteen arrested in Katlehong stop-and-search operation

Katlehong police share their arrest statistics.

Officers from the Katlehong police’s Crime Prevention Unit and detectives from the Katlehong Police Station took to the streets of Katlehong on Wednesday in a crime prevention stop-and-search operation.

The operation led to the arrest of 15 suspects.

The suspects were arrested for various offences.

Charges included:

• Rape: 4

• Assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm: 4

• Common assault: 2

• Armed robbery: 2

• Shoplifting: 1

• Dealing: 1

• Contravening the Disaster Management Act (Covid-19 Act): 1

All of the arrested suspects appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court, where their cases were postponed for various reasons.

Katlehong SAPS acting station commander Col Phakama Gcaza thanked everyone who contributed to the arrests.

She was concerned about the number of sexual assault and rape cases being reported.

“More needs to be done to deal with the perpetrators of these crimes,” Gcaza said.
