Johannes will be forever in people’s hearts

The Germiston SPCA is mourning the death of field officer Lesiba Johannes Rabalao.

Staff and committee members of the Germiston SPCA are mourning the death of their field officer Lesiba Johannes Rabalao.

He died unexpectedly last Wednesday night.

Johannes, as he was known to everybody, was born on August 12, 1962.

Johannes was in the employ of the Germiston SPCA since 1979, and was the society’s longest serving employee.

He was the first recipient of its Long Service Award last year, for 40 years of service and dedication towards the Germiston SPCA and animals.

Johannes assisted thousands of animals during his lifelong contribution to animal welfare.

“Many of our community members knew Johannes and grew fond of him.

“His utmost compassion towards and love for animals were breathtaking,” said Roxanne Bredenkamp, Germiston SPCA management committee member in charge of fund-raising and marketing.

“Johannes also played a vital role in educating the youth, by facilitating many school visits over the years.

“Johannes was a trusted and loved co-worker and could always lighten up the day with his gentle approach.

“He always wore his uniform with pride – shoes always polished, trousers fitting perfectly, his shirts always snow white and his epaulettes perfectly fitted.

“Johannes truly set the perfect example for his colleagues and took pride in everything he did,” Roxanne said.

“There is an emptiness at our society. Our hearts go out to his wife Selina, who also works at our society, and his family, friends, and colleagues.

“Johannes truly fought the good fight against animal cruelty until his last day, which is a magnificent calling.

“We have lost a hero, but Johannes will forever live in our hearts and we will strive to continue his legacy.”
