Hirsch’s has some fun in the kitchen with their Kitchen Capers

Learn cooking skills while having some virtual cooking fun.

Hirsch’s first virtual Kitchen Capers event will bring together cooking enthusiasts from around South Africa.

The Kitchen Capers events were popular events on the Hirsch’s calendar before Covid-19 and were held on a monthly basis in Hirsch’s shops in KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and the Cape.

“With lockdown measures in place at this time, the Hirsch’s public relations team are joining forces with some of the well-known restaurants and catering businesses around the country, many of which have battled during lockdown, and holding fun and informative Zoom sessions with the chefs in these industries,” said Chantelle du Plessis, public relations officer for Hirsch’s Meadowdale.

The popular Greek speciality, moussaka, will be on the menu at the next Hirsch’s Kitchen Capers event on June 24.

The first Hirsch’s Kitchen Capers Zoom event was held with Eat Greek, a well-known catering business, based in Durban, with owner Nick Papadopolous and chef Eric Edwards whipping up a deliciously crisp and flavoursome spanakopita (spinach pie) and the quintessential Greek salad, in the state-of-the-art Siemens kitchen at the Hirsch’s Umhlanga branch.

They were helped, from a distance, by Hirsch’s public relations officer and cooking enthusiast Lindsay Kleynhans.

“Zoom guests may not have been able to taste the dish, but they were left in no doubt of its unique crispness when it was sliced through.

“If you would like the recipe, visit the Hirsch’s blog at www.hirschs.co.za,” said Chantelle.
