Youngster continues to help during lockdown

Elspark’s Zoë Fuller (13) is still helping during lockdown.

The youngster had a busy day last Friday when she once again made up food parcels for 26 needy families, which were distributed from Laerskool Elspark where she is a Grade Seven learner.

She then visited two old age homes where she handed over donations of toiletries.

After her last food donation, Zoë saw the difference it made in people’s lives, and knew she wanted to continue collecting donations.

With the help of her father, Charles, a Sunward Park, Boksburg, resident, Zoë put out a challenge to communities to donate food.

Donations came in, most of which came from members of the Brakpan Aero Club, of which Charles is a member.

The donations were facilitated through The Covid Flight (TCF) and the Acorn Foundation.

Zoë, with the help of her brother Enzo (11), once again, set about making up the food parcels.

“I am happy that I could do this again, as my last donation was a month ago,” Zoë said.

“I want to try and continue donating to needy families.”

Enzo told the GCN he was glad to be helping his sister.

“I am happy to be helping and busy,” he said.

The Grade Seven learner was also thrilled about her imminent return to school.

“I am so glad to be going back to school.

“It’s been driving me crazy being at home all the time,” Zoë said.

She said she is up to date with all her school work and although it’s going to be a bit strange with only the Grade Sevens at school she was looking forward to it.

The hampers Zoë donated to the families this time were packed full of necessities, including fresh vegetables, fruit, cooking oil, eggs, long-life milk, sugar, cake flour, samp, rice, tea, toilet paper, canned food and much more.

Laerskool Elspark’s principal Fred Gericke told the GCN he was happy that Zoë had once again managed to put together donations for the families.

“We have been helping throughout the lockdown and so far we have donated about nine tons of food overall to needy families,” Fred said.

Once Zoë had completed her task of organising the food parcels at the school and making sure they were ready to be distributed, she headed off to SAVF Kowa Pienaar Home in Elspark and Cosmos Home for the Aged in Boksburg to hand over donations of toiletries and treats.

The donations included soap, toothpaste, shampoo and basic necessities, as well as some treats like sweets.

She was also planning to bake cookies for the elderly residents of Kowa Pienaar.
