Numerous suburbs left in the dark in Germiston

Ward councillors have received no feedback as to what is causing the problem.

Residents in numerous suburbs in Germiston are battling without power.

Ward 92 councillor Graham Gersbach told the GCN he is trying to get answers as to why the power is off in certain areas of his ward.

A Homestead resident told the GCN that the power went off yesterday at 11.30am.

“There are power outages in a large part of my ward, including Homestead, half of Elandsfontein, a house in Marlands, parts of Gerdview and Primrose East and a house in Buurendal,” Gersbach said.

He also asked the metro about the continued illegal connections  by residents of the Emabondeni informal settlement in Elandsfontein.

Gersbach said he  is getting no feedback from the municipality.

Ward 36 councillor Wendy Morgan told the GCN the problem does not end there.

Other areas affected:

“These areas have been off since 5pm on Wednesday with no feedback from the municipality,” Morgan said.

Morgan added that the power in Primrose Central had just gone off at about 8.30am today (Thursday) and she was awaiting feedback on the matter.

“There are also numerous individual properties and businesses which have not had power since Tuesday,” Morgan said.

“These include a property in Walkers Avenue, Primrose, a complex in Lobelia Road, Primrose, a house in Zinnia Road, Primrose, a business in Knights Road, a house in Cydonia Road and a house in Numeral Road, in Gosforth Park.”
