Ten nabbed in crime prevention stop-and-search

Katlehong police share their daily arrest statistics.

Officers from the Katlehong police’s Crime Prevention Unit took to the streets of Katlehong on Wednesday to conduct a crime prevention stop-and-search operation.

The operation formed part of the SAPS’s continued efforts to curb crime in the area and crack down on community members not adhering to the rules and regulations of level four lockdown.

Ten suspects were arrested for various offences.

Charged included:

• Contravening the Disaster Management Act (Covid-19 Act): 7

• Theft: 2

• Shoplifting: 1

Katlehong SAPS acting station commander Col Phakama Gcaza thanked everyone who contributed to the arrests, but was concerned by the number of youngsters who seem to find themselves on the wrong side of the law.

She appealed to the youth of the community to think about the effect a criminal record may have on their futures.

All of the arrested suspects appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court, where their cases were postponed for various reasons.
