Rest-a-While appeals to community to open its heart to the elderly

Rest-a-While Service Centre for the Elderly has received a permit to deliver cooked meals and will use it to deliver meals to their elderly members.

Rest-a-While Service Centre for the Elderly began delivering meals to their elderly members this week.

“We have received a permit to deliver cooked meals to our members,” explained the centre’s manager, Trudy Carreira.

“The centre has been prepared and decontaminated and all necessary steps have been taken to ensure all our staff and members are kept safe.”

Trudy further explained that Rest-a-While would be continuously monitored, and before they started work strict sanitation procedures were put in place that the whole team has to follow.

“We follow strict protocols and procedures set out by the Department of Health and we must obey all the level four rules and regulations,” she said.

Though the organisation will be delivering meals, no one is allowed to visit the centre.

“No one is allowed to visit the centre still, we will only be delivering meals.

“We ask our members to please place their orders for the week beforehand to make our job easier and more efficient,” she said.

She reminded members to maintain their social distance when their meals are delivered.

“Please remember to keep a safe social distance from our driver, JP Pelser, and his assistant, Vicky Modise,” Trudy said.

Trudy further appealed to the community to help the centre’s members by sponsoring a meal.

“We have a huge need for sponsorship for meals,” she said.

“Our Adopt-a-Granny Project is also still running and if anyone can help we ask them to do so.”

The centre has also launched its annual winter food drive and hopes to collect food which can make up food parcels for needy members.

“Please help us collect blankets, non-perishable groceries, tinned food, coffee, tea, powdered milk and toiletries for both men and women so we can make winter hampers for our needy elderly.

“Let’s all open our hearts and share the gift of giving,” said Trudy.
