Covid-19: Prim Villa protects its residents and staff during lockdown

Methodist Homes for the Aged is making sure strict measures are in place to protect residents and staff members.

Prim Villa supports Methodist Homes’ stringent measures to protect elderly residents and staff during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Methodist Homes for the Aged (MHA) has a massive responsibility in protecting not only its elderly residents, but also its staff who provide vital care and essential services to the residents during the Covid-19 pandemic.

To ensure optimal and seamless functioning during the 21-day national lockdown period, Methodist Homes continues to roll out a series of stringent measures at its 15 retirement villages in Gauteng and the Northwest Province.

All MHA essential service staff, including kitchen personnel, cleaners, etc have been issued with letters confirming their status in order to allow them to travel during the national lockdown.

No visitors, including family members and service providers like hairdressers, podiatrists, etc are allowed into the care centres for the duration of the national lockdown.

To limit access to the villages by private carers, arrangements have been made for carers to sleep in where possible.

All residents and staff are screened/assessed every day.

It has been arranged that all care centre work phones have WhatsApp and the numbers communicated to family members who can either voice or video call their family members.

Methodist Homes also recognises the importance of residents’ mental wellbeing during the lockdown.

Staff will ensure that there are plenty of activities to keep residents occupied and stimulated.

The staff is pampering the residents by doing their nails, giving them hand massages and washing their hair.

“Methodist Homes fully supports the nationwide lockdown, which is in the interest of every person in South Africa and pledges to continue providing uninterrupted, top quality, professional care to all its residents,” said Methodist Homes’ chairperson, Les Smith.

“We wish to assure family and loved ones that we are taking every precaution in an effort to protect the wellbeing of all our residents and staff.”
