Man arrested for assault in Delport informal settlement

The Primrose police apprehended a 48-year-old suspect on a charge of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

A Delport informal settlement man was allegedly assaulted by his 48-year-old neighbour recently.

The victim claimed the incident occurred when he visited his neighbour and asked him to return the R40 he had lent him.

“The suspect reportedly told the man he did not have the money and he could do whatever he wanted to but he still wouldn’t get the money,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“The complainant told the suspect he needed the money to buy food.

“The suspect allegedly attacked the victim, hitting him in the upper body until he was swollen.”

The victim reported the incident to the Primrose police and the suspect was arrested on a charge of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court, where his case was postponed for plea and trial.
