Man arrested for assault

Primrose police apprehend suspect on charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

While visiting his brother and three of his brother’s friends in the Delport informal settlement recently, a man allegedly witnessed an assault.

“The complainant told police that while he, his brother and his brother’s friends were talking, a man, unknown to him, walked past them,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“One of his brother’s friends reportedly left the group to speak to the man.

“All of a sudden the unknown man allegedly punched the victim.

“The suspect was grabbed by several members of the community before he could flee the scene.”

Police were called to the scene.

The 29-year-old suspect was handed over to police without injury and was arrested on a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

“We thank the members of the community for not taking the law into their own hands and for handing the suspect over to us without injury so that the law could take its course,” said Maome.

The arrested suspect has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court, where his case was postponed for plea and trial.
