Police arrest minor after stabbing incident

Germiston learner arrested in Thembisa after allegedly stabbing classmate to death.

A Grade 11 learner from Sizwe Secondary School, in Elandsfontein, was arrested, last Tuesday, after he allegedly stabbed a Grade Nine learner from the same school to death.

It is reported that the incident took place two streets away from the school at around 2.10pm in the afternoon.

“It is reported that the two school boys had an argument after school,” said Gauteng SAPS spokesperson, Capt Kay Makhubele.

“During the fight, the 17-year-old suspect took out a knife and stabbed the victim (who was also 17 years old) several times.

“The victim later died in hospital.”

Following a brief investigation by the police the suspect was arrested in Thembisa.

“The Gauteng Department of Education vehemently denounces all violent acts by learners upon fellow learners and is determined to render any act of violence by learners punishable in accordance with South African law,” said Gauteng Department of Education’s spokesperson Steve Mabona, following the incident.
