Young performer off to New York to showcase her talents

Tesmin is going to participate in the International Modelling and Talent Association Convention. She hopes to impress the judges with her talents.

Tesmin-Robyn Khanye has been offered the opportunity of a lifetime to pursue her passion of being a performer in New York.

“I’m excited about this opportunity.

“I was excited and humbled when I was chosen and I’m really grateful for the opportunity,” said Tesmin.

The 22-year-old from Palm Ridge has been selected to participate in the International Modelling and Talent Association (IMTA) Convention, which takes place in New York in July.

She will be showcasing her singing, songwriting, dancing, modelling and acting talents at the convention.

“This convention is important to me because it can really afford me great opportunities and make me an international star,” said Tesmin.

She said performing had always been something she enjoyed doing from a young age.

Tesmin Khanye is ready to take on New York.

“I was always the life of the party, and family members would always ask me to perform for them at family gatherings.

“I thought as I grew up I would lose the love for it, but it did not go away. Rather, it grew stronger.

“Even when my teachers advised me to consider other careers, my heart was still in the performing arts,” said Tesmin.

She said she would love to be a triple-threat artist because that will increase her chances of being noticed by the judges.

The GCN asked her what she has prepared for the convention.

“I will be dancing freestyle with a South African flavour, as well as singing and modelling,” she said.

Tesmin said if she is selected it will mean great things for her as a performer.

“I want to be an international star, and being able to study in New York will add weight to my work because they have high standards for performers, which guarantees they are the best,” said Tesmin.

She said artists like Pearl Thusi and Nomzamo Mbhatha, who are going abroad to grow in their work, inspire her to push herself.

“They are showing us it’s possible and that South Africa has talent to offer the world.

“I want to be one of those young women to make their mark in New York and be a world-respected artist for my talent,” said Tesmin.

She said to be a great performer requires discipline and dedication.

“I have been doing local performances to grow my confidence in performing in front of a crowd.

“I have been working hard to improve and grow as a performer,” said Tesmin.

Last year she performed in front of a crowd of more than 1 000 people at the Umshubhelo Music festival.

“That experience was amazing and also prepared me for what I will be facing at the IMTA,” said Tesmin.

She said her family and friends have been supporting her in her journey.

“My family and friends have been encouraging me and supporting me in every way they can.

“My mother is paying for me to attend the IMTA.

“It’s expensive, but she wants me to go and do my best as I’ve been offered this opportunity,” said Tesmin.

She said because of the cost of the trip and everything else, she still needs sponsors for her outfits for her performances and money because they will be doing some travelling while she is in New York.

“The trip requires a lot of money and I need all the financial help I can get.

“If there is anyone or a company who is willing to sponsor me, I would be grateful,” said Tesmin.

Anyone who is willing to assist Tesmin can contact her mother, Hazel, on 078 761 6668.
