The community of Makause barricaded roads in protest.
Primrose SAPS members clear Pretoria Road of burning tyres and rubble after residents of Makause informal settlement barricaded roads last Friday morning.
The community of the Makause informal settlement barricaded Pretoria and Main Reef roads last Friday with stones and burning tyres.
The incident took place at about 6.30am.
“According to information received, the community unrest started on Thursday night after people heard rumours that one of the men who was arrested in 2018 on a charge of possession of an unlawful firearm was released from prison.
“The firearm had belonged to the late community leader Jomo Ngwenya,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose SAPS.
“It is alleged that the community was so furious that they went to demolish his shack and those of his relatives in Makause informal settlement.”
Then on Friday morning, the community also damaged vehicles of passing motorists after blocking the roads.
The Primrose police and EMPD members on the scene cleared the rubble and tyres from the roads at about 8am so that motorists could once again use the roads.
The community members marched to the Germiston Magistrate’s Court as twin brothers were appearing for a spate of robberies which had occurred in Makause.
