Cable upgrade to help stabilise power supply in Albemarle and Dinwiddie

The work is estimated to take about six weeks to complete.

The metro has appointed a contractor to upgrade the 33KVA cable from the Chapman Substation to the Albemarle Substation.

The upgrade will assist to stabilise the power in Albemarle and Dinwiddie.

Roads that will be affected are Hatfield Avenue, Black Reef Road, Russell Road and a portion of Chapman Road.

Due to the urgency of the project, it started on March 9 and will take approximately six weeks to complete, weather dependent.

In order to fast track the project, approximately 100 people will work on it, including people from the community.

The contractor has appointed a sub-contractor that is available on-site to manage and supervise the teams.

A community liaison officer (CLO) has been appointed to represent the community.

The teams might work on weekends to catch up if they are behind schedule due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances.

In terms of working in driveways, the contractor gave an undertaking to make contact directly with residents affected to make necessary arrangements.

All driveways will be accessible at the end of each workday.

The contractor has undertook to reinstate pavements immediately once the cable is in the ground to alleviate any inconvenience.

No planned outages are envisaged during the project, except for unforeseen damages to cables.

Once the cable is ready for switch over from the old cable to the new cable then only will the power be down for approximately eight hours.

Residents will be informed in advance of the date in order to plan accordingly.

Residents are requested to please be patient during the project as this will assist to stabilise the electricity supply to the area.
