Dining out tips for vegetarians

Don't be afraid to make a special request.

Going out for dinner can be difficult for vegetarians and vegans.

Some restaurants do not highlight their meatless options.

For starters, check menus for symbols such as a ‘v’ or a leaf marking dishes as vegetarian.

If you aren’t sure if the dish is vegetarian, ask your waiter.

Don’t be afraid to make a special request.

Some chefs will modify a dish so it fits into your preferences.

Or, consider ordering vegetable appetisers or side dishes as your main course.

Finding vegetarian options at fast food restaurants can be difficult, but many restaurants now offer salad menus and sandwiches with vegetable or meat substitute fillings.

Breakfast items often are vegetarian friendly.

Order off the kids menu as these dishes will often contain several vegetarian-friendly options, such as macaroni and cheese, tomato sauce pasta, and toasted cheese sandwiches.

Trade your meat for your partner’s veggies.

This way your meat-eating partner gets more and you get their non-meat food.
