The shutdown will take place from 1pm on Saturday, February 29 to 1pm on Sunday, March 1.

Rand Water has scheduled an emergency shutdown of its O5 pipeline in order to repair a leak.

The shutdown will take place from 1pm on Saturday, February 29 to 1pm on Sunday, March 1.

Consumers in the Germiston and Bedfordview areas will be affected.

There is a high possibility of the areas below being affected by the shutdown depending on the duration of the shutdown and the change in levels of different reservoirs during the shutdown:

The affected areas are:

  • Jupiter Railway Station and houses
  • Crown Mines site
  • Heriotdale houses and companies
  • Jupiter Industries
  • Primrose
  • Dawnview
  • Wadeville
  • Sunnyrock
  • Symhurst
  • Solheim
  • Signal Hill Reservoir
  • Fishers’ Hill
  • Wychwood
  • Malvern East
  • Bedfordview

Justice Mohale, media relations manager for Rand Water, said, “Rand Water apologises for the inconvenience, but this was a necessary project as we do not want to waste water due to a leak.

“As infrastructure gets older these problems can occur and we are trying our best to make sure the problem is fixed to avoid wasting water as South Africa is a water scarce country.

“We ask consumers to be patient with us as the project is completed and we urge all consumers to use water sparingly.”
