Community, churches, CPF and police come together to tackle drug issue in Elsburg

The Elsburg SAPS embarked on a drug awareness campaign.

Elsburg SAPS members, together with Churches Against Crime (made up of Central Bikers Ministry, Worship Centre, Lede in Christus Kerk Elsburg and the Elsburg Methodist Church), the Elsburg CPF and community members, embarked on a drug awareness campaign last Saturday.

They visited Voortrekker and Kruger streets.

“The purpose of the day was to assure community members who are affected by drug-related crime in the area or substance abuse that together we can still bring hope to the hopeless and keep our environment safe and secure for all,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg SAPS.

Community members were invited to the various churches, where small Bibles were distributed.

Safety tip pamphlets relating to drugs and safety for the elderly and SAPS colouring-in books for children were also handed out.

Lt Col Anton Meyer from the Elsburg SAPS said, “Unity and standing together against women and child abuse and drug abuse will strengthen the relationship between all of us – Churches Against Crime, the police, the community and all other stakeholders – so we can win the battle.”

The organisations and community members were thanked for their participation in the campaign and for wanting to make a difference.
