Help animals by joining the Germiston SPCA’s management committee

The education and community engagement portfolio on the management committee of the Germiston and Bedfordview SPCA is vacant.

The management committee is comprised of members of the public who are voluntarily responsible for the governance and management of the society.

It is in essence similar to the governing body of a school.

“We are in need of a passionate animal lover to take on the portfolio and make our society fly,” said Jacques Peacock, management committee secretary.

The responsibilities will include:

• Active involvement at the society.

• Coordinate all school visits and educational programmes.

• Coordinate all volunteer programmes.

• Source and/or create educational content regarding animal welfare.

• Work with the social media team, fund-raising and outreach portfolios on joint projects.

• Participate in community forums and discussions to promote the society, animal welfare and community engagement.

• Partake in management discussions and decisions of the society.

• Attend monthly management meetings and correspond via email and cellphone on a regular basis.

Previous education, public relations or similar experience in an animal welfare organisation, non-profit organisation or the private sector would be appreciated.

“Community engagement is vital in keeping the society afloat.

“Education is also an important tool to prevent animal cruelty,” said Peacock.

“We therefore plead with our community to get involved with the SPCA, as the management committee is an integral structure of the society.”
