Eight Katlehong schools receive vouchers to make improvements

The Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition sees local schools benefiting.

Eight schools in Katlehong were the lucky winners of the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition.

The schools will each receive a Cashbuild building material voucher to the value of R15 000 which means the schools will now be able to both improve and repair their premises.

The vouchers were handed out to all the schools at the Art-at-Heart ceremony at the new Cashbuild in Sam Ntuli Mall store on Thursday.

Thembalethu Primary School and Matsediso Primary School are just two of the eight schools that will each receive a Cashbuild building material voucher.

Sibongile Monaheng, the principal of Thembalethu Primary School, said they are grateful to Cashbuild for the voucher.

“We have a big project to re-tile all the classrooms and repair some of the ceilings, so with this voucher I am glad we will be able to kick-start the process.

“We will now be able to purchase the tiles and any other materials we will require,” Monaheng said.

Matsediso Primary School’s principal, Abel Masha, said, “With this voucher we will be building a well-equipped play area for our 57 pre-school learners.

Bright future ahead for Katlehong learners

“At the moment, the play area is sandy, has run-down play equipment and is on the other side of the school grounds.

“Now we are able to fence the area and add some new items which will help the learners with their outdoor learning experiences.”

The Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition entails learners from each school submitting their best artwork to Cashbuild.

This artwork is displayed at the ceremony and remains on display in the Cashbuild store for the next six years.

Artwork will be judged and three winners from each school will be named.

Winners will receive Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificates for first, second and third place respectively.

The Manager’s Choice award will also be presented to the overall winner of the artwork competition.

The schools that benefited from the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart donations were: Kwanele Primary School, Thembalethu Primary School, Matsediso Primary School, Mutingati Primary School, Umzamo Primary School, Lungisani Primary School, Chivirikani Primary School and Nqubela Primary School.

Since the Art-at-Heart campaign was launched 19 years ago, Cashbuild has helped more than 3 500 schools in Southern Africa with over R44-million worth of building materials.

Cashbuild is BEE compliant and every time a store is opened, relocated or refurbished, Cashbuild not only makes donations to local schools, but also creates jobs for community members.

The Art-at-Heart competition is a Southern African Cashbuild initiative whereby donations are made to some of the region’s most needy schools.
