More waste collection workers dismissed

Forty-nine workers have now been dismissed by the metro.

The metro has dismissed an additional nine waste collection workers for disrupting waste collection, intimidation of workers and damage to property.

The additional nine employees were notified of their dismissal late on February 3.

This latest development takes the total number employees dismissed at the solid waste division in Kempton Park to 49.

The metro is implementing an operational plan for clearing the waste collection backlog that might have occurred due to the disruptive nature of the affected employees’ conduct.

The safety of employees who are at work and that of municipal property remains of paramount importance for continued rendering of the services in a normal environment.
