Mr ADT puts safety first for children

Children at Pitter Patter Academy learn valuable safety tips from Mr ADT.

Pre-primary learners from Pitter Patter Academy in Wychwood got a surprise visit from Mr ADT on Wednesday.

Well-known children’s comedian/entertainer Darin McDowall, also known as Mr ADT, takes time out to teach children about safety in a fun and interactive way.

McDowall kept the children’s eyes fixed on him while he demonstrated and explained various safety tips with the use of his magic tricks.

The show, Baddies and Buddies, is part of the complimentary services offered by Fidelity ADT Security to pre-primary and primary school learners.

The show is aimed at creating crime awareness among the children of Gauteng and focuses on topics including home robberies, stranger danger, safety tips, dangerous items, household awareness, panic buttons and guns.

• Electricity safety – not touching or pulling plugs.

• The dangers of fire, which also includes not playing with matches, lighters or candles.

• How to behave around dogs.

• Home invasion and what to do if a stranger comes into your house.

• Touching a hot stove.

• Mistaking poisonous items as sweets. It is important to also check with their parents before they put something into their mouth.

“Do not play with guns,” said McDowall, who explained the dangers involved with guns.

The following emergency services numbers were taught to the children:

• National emergency number for SAPS: 10111.

• National ambulance and fire brigade services: 10177.

Along with enjoying the show, the children learnt valuable safety tips.

“We have had Mr ADT here many times and the children love his shows and always interact with him,” said Shelley Bainbridge, owner of Pitter Patter Academy.
