EMPD operation leads to three arrests

EMPD DEU members conducted a crime prevention operation in Germiston and Primrose.

During a crime prevention operation held in the Germiston and Primrose areas last Monday, members of the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) apprehended three male suspects, between 6.30am and 9am.

Narcotics and cash believed to be the proceeds of illegal trade were confiscated in two of the arrests.

In the first incident at 6.45am EMPD DEU officers approached a suspicious-looking 28-year-old man in Webber Road.

They allegedly found 23.6g of loose dagga, one gram of Kat valued at R600, and R700 in cash in the suspect’s possession following a body search.

“As officers were handcuffing the offender, an untrustworthy onlooker among the spectators showed the officers a clean pair of heels, but he was cornered and caught on Argyle Road at 6.50am,” said Kobeli Mokheseng, the spokesperson for the EMPD.

“When interviewed, the man who is in his 30s, confessed to having entered the country illegally, without the necessary documents, and he was arrested.”

The suspect was taken to the Primrose Police Station.

Two of the arrested suspects were charged with possession of and dealing in illicit substances while the other was charged under the Migrations Act.

They are expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
