Learners from School of Achievement among top three for Lsen learners in Gauteng

Learners and staff from School of Achievement celebrated their results.

School of Achievement celebrated a successful academic year in 2019 with two of its matric learners being named in the top three for Lsen learners in Gauteng.

The school had 55 learners who sat the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations and achieved an 86 per cent pass rate.

Thirty learners (55 per cent) achieved bachelor’s passes and 17 learners (31 per cent) achieved diploma passes.

The school achieved 25 distinctions overall.

The top achiever at the school and the top Lsen achiever in Gauteng was Leandri Truscott.

The young woman attained six distinctions in English (80 per cent), mathematical literacy (90 per cent), life orientation (97 per cent), hospitality studies (90 per cent), tourism (94 per cent) and geography (83 per cent).

This year, Truscott plans to take a gap year and work in both the teaching and hospitality fields before making up her mind about which she wants to study.

Another of the school’s learners, Clinton Maritz, came third in the top three Lsen learners in Gauteng.

He received three distinctions in mathematical literacy, life orientation and tourism.

He missed a distinction in hospitality studies by one per cent, and he has applied for a remark.

Tinus du Preez, the principal of School of Achievement, is extremely proud of the learners.

“We are disappointed that the number of failures was higher than expected though,” he said.

“Our learners are Lsen learners and they have to compete with and write the same exams as learners in mainstream schools.

“The MEC announced the top three Lsen learners in Gauteng and this year, two of the three top learners are from the School of Achievement.

“There has also been a significant increase in the number of bachelor’s passes in 2019, more than double the bachelor’s passes obtained the previous year.

“We warmly congratulate our learners.”
