Primrose High learners celebrate the end of their school careers

Hoërskool Primrose High School was pleased with its learners’ 2019 matric results, despite a slight drop in pass rate.

It was a day filled with smiles and a few tears for the matric learners from Hoërskool Primrose High School, on Wednesday, as they collected their National Senior Certificate (NSC) results.

The school achieved a 90 per cent pass rate, a 3.1 per cent drop from the 2018 results, but despite this principal André Grobler is pleased with the results.

“We had 55 bachelor’s passes, 57 diploma passes and 21 higher certificate passes,” Grobler explained.

“Our learners also earned 24 distinctions between them, five of which came from Matsidiso Hlongwane.”

The school’s other top achievers were Asanda Dahile with three distinctions and Itumeleng Molele and Lucia Langa both with two distinctions.

The GCN spoke to Hlongwane, who achieved distinctions in mathematics, life orientation, computer application technology, life sciences and physical sciences, while she collected her certificate from the school.

“I am very proud of myself,” Hlongwane said.

“I didn’t think I would get five distinctions. I was only aiming for three, but I am very happy with the five.”

Hlongwane plans to study chemical engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand, in Johannesburg.

When asked why she would like to pursue this career, Hlongwane explained, “I want to invent things and feel chemical engineering will allow me to do this.”

Grobler complimented the school’s dedicated teachers and credited their hard work for the school’s pass rate.

“I will say it year after year. I don’t think enough credit is given to the teachers, not just at our school but everywhere, and I thank our wonderful educators for all their hard work.

“The credit for our results really does go to our educators, who took time from their holidays and weekends and stayed after school to assist our learners,” he said.

Grobler, who looks forward to the new year at the school, wished the class of 2019 all the best as they head out into the world.
