Ekurhuleni West District stations nab 62 suspects during festive season

Ekurhuleni West District police stations share their festive season successes.

Officers from the Ekurhuleni West District police stations made 62 arrests during several festive season operations.

The operations, including stop-and-searches and roadblocks, were held throughout the district by officers between December 27 and 29.

The Ekurhuleni West District police stations are made up of the Bedfordview, Primrose, Germiston, Elsburg, Alberton, Brackendowns, Katlehong North, Thokoza, Eden Park, Vosloorus, Zonkizizwe and Katlehong police stations.

The accused were charged with various offences.

Charges included shoplifting, common assault, domestic violence, possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle, malicious damage to property, possession of drugs, attempted murder, dealing in dagga, driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of suspected stolen property, theft, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, reckless and negligent driving, fraud and hijacking.

EMPD officers, who assisted in the operations, also issued a number of fines to motorists and encouraged the community to drive safely.

All of the arrested suspects appeared in either the Germiston, Vosloorus, Palm Ridge and Edenvale Magistrate’s Courts where their cases were postponed for various reasons.
